Dans un contexte d’anthropisation croissante des milieux (cas des pays développés) ou dans celui d’une meilleure valorisation de la ressource (cas des pays en voie de développement) où la protection de la qualité des eaux s’avère de nos jours une priorité, ma problématique a pour finalité une meilleure gestion des milieux naturels, à partir de la connaissance des facteurs contrôlant l’activité des communautés biologiques. Mes projets de recherche affichent clairement une approche multidisciplinaire, essentielle à la résolution des questions d’environnement applicables au développement.

L'ensemble de mes activités de recherche s'inscrit dans ce cadre avec la préoccupation de mieux comprendre la structuration et le mode de fonctionnement des réseaux trophiques pélagiques à partir de l’analyse de plusieurs chaînons biologiques (bactéries, phytoplancton, protozoaires) et de leurs interrelations sachant que ces communautés intègrent à la fois les effets individuels et cumulatifs de plusieurs sources de perturbations externes ou internes au système.

Entre 2001 et 2007, au sein des unités IRD « FLAG » et « CYROCO », j’étais responsable de l’équipe Microbiologie (membres IRD, MNHN, CNRS) dont les principaux axes de recherche étaient tournés vers la caractérisation des facteurs de contrôle des communautés microbiennes en présence de proliférations algales toxiques ou non dans les écosystèmes aquatiques types réservoirs d’eau potable. Depuis 2007, les projets de recherche sont tournés principalement vers la compréhension des impacts anthropiques (pesticides, rejets urbains..) sur le fonctionnement des écosystèmes marins côtiers (estuaire, lagons). Depuis deux ans, mes actions de recherche se focalisent sur la vulnérabilité des écosystèmes peu impactées (voire «vierges ») dans l’Océan Indien avec l’étude des réponses des communautés microbiennes des Iles Eparses (Canal du Mozambique) à différents polluants. De nombreuses études mettent en exergue la vulnérabilité de l’Océan Indien au changement climatique avec une série de symptômes dont l’évolution est incertaine. Ce contexte exige la mise en œuvre d’un programme régional de renforcement des capacités sur l’adaptation au changement climatique de la zone sud ouest de l’Océan Indien.

Enseignement et encadrements

- 14 encadrements directs M1 et M2, 5 co-direction de thèses dont 1 en cours. 3 co-encadrements de thèses, 14 participations à des jurys de thèse et d’HDR.

- Enseignement (cours et travaux pratiques en langue portugaise) à l’université de Recife (Brésil) en avril 1997.

- Enseignement à l’IUPA (niveau master) à l’Université de Dakar 2004-2007 (par an : 10 h cours, 15 h Travaux pratiques).

- Enseignement au Master BGAE, spécialité BIMP à l’Université de Montpellier II depuis septembre 2006 à nos jours (4 h/an).

- Enseignement au Master BAEMT, spécialité « Ecosystèmes » à l’Université de Montpellier II depuis septembre 2009 (4 h/an).

- Responsable du module Enseignement GMST 101 « Ecologie et Littoral » (25 heures, env 80 étudiants) au sein du master EAU depuis septembre 2011. Enseignement de 8 h/an.
